ARTICLE 6: SPECIFIC FREEDOMS

Article 6 of the 1981 U.N. Declaration makes an important contribution to international protection for freedom of religion or belief by using nine specific freedoms that are encompassed in the manifestation of core beliefs. These rights are an elaboration of Article 1 which defines the right to have or to adopt a religion or whatever belief of one’s choice, including freedom either individually or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest a religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching.
